Monster in the Crowd

I took this photo in Tokyo, Japan, back in December 2009. This illustration on my photography is actually part two in a series that I’ll continue to add to. Just for fun.

Cut and Paste Los Angeles 2010 / Homer + gummi bear in a chocolate car

Homer and his giant gummi bear homie driving around in a chocolate Hershey car.

This was my test round entry for Cut & Paste 2010: Los Angeles: digital design tournament. (http://cutandpaste.com) 15 minutes to design from scratch. Made it to the finals in '09 but I didn't make it this time around. I'm still pretty happy about my piece though. And it was fun going out there for the test round. Just like last year, the test round topic was bliss! On to the next. :-)

West Valley 580

This design was intended for a charcoal colored shirt. Large print on the back and a smaller print on the front over the heart. I love blogging about the process when I can. :D

This shirt is for the West Valley CHP. They have an annual ride or race from Baker to Las Vegas. This isn't usually my style but it was fun to work on. Plus it gave me more practice with my tablet that I got a few months ago. Intuos 4!

Fave Go Pencil Go Doodles

If you haven't checked out my other blog, you should take a second and look: http://gopencilgo.blogspot.com. It's been one of my bigger projects as a whole lately so it only feels right that I write about it here. Here's my personal top 3:

3. #8. Much Ado Bear: Pretty much a update of the original. Update probably isn't the right word. Let's just say it was a different approach to it. Simple sells. (posted May 28, 2009)

2. #27. Ms. Jenie. The first of a long string of portraits done. Anybody is welcome to request a doodle in the shoutmix box located at the left. I prefer more variety than a portrait of you but I don't mind them to much. The string will continue. (posted June 14, 2009)

1.
#46. Tortoise Rider Colored. My hands down favorite. It was the most fun to draw and imagine. Post-Its saved the day so I didn't photoshop them out just yet. My logo has come to life. (posted July 3, 2009)

Feels good to be able to update this blog as I've been concentrating on Go Pencil Go. It feels doubly good to look back at what I've done so far and realize that I must step-up my game a little bit. I'm going to keep this up because I just got a healthy dose of inspiration and motivation just now.

I'm currently at #77. Which is a sort of a pointy looking rabbit. Check out the Big Bear in the Forest series! Make requests! Leave comments! Go time! Go, pencil, go.

ps. in all honesty, all this post is is just more promotion for my daily doodle blog. I appreciate you reading this really I do! :-)

Cut & Paste Competition 2009 Aftermath

So Cut & Paste seemed like it just flew by. It was hectic and fun. No, I didn't win but I did make it to the final round. Despite a stressful morning and early afternoon, it was an amazing time. And I just noticed they updated their website with photos so now I can update my artblog. So here's 30 minutes worth of art from a saturday evening in Los Angeles. Yes, indeed.

Round 1: Human Nature - tattoo
Positive thoughts and ideas grow beautiful things. Negativity grows thorns.

Round 2: Time Travel - lunchbox
It's like a suitcase hence 'travel'. The stickers are time related and food related and there's your 'time' and 'lunchbox'. =)

Thanks for all the love and support the past couple weeks! =P Cheers.

PS. I seriously need to go snowboarding soon!

Cut & Paste Competition 2009 / Bliss

I very recently found out that I will be partaking and competing in what's called the Cut&Paste competition (Los Angeles; there's others in other cities as well). In a nutshell, the participants have 15 minutes to build their design from scratch based off a certain subject. There's 8 designers, 3 rounds and an audience of about 1000.This monkey fishing for banana fish in banana waters was my test round idea; which I sacrificed a day of snowboarding to attend. The subject was 'bliss.' This actual picture is my pre-test round before the actual test round cuz i didn't get a chance to save it for myself. So yeah, that was done in 15 minutes.

Anyways, Cut&Paste goes down on Saturday February 21st, 2009 at Avalon Hollywood. 5PM - 11PM. $15 online pre-sale. $20 at the door. For more information, take a gander here. Mark you calendar. Come out if you can. I really don't know what to expect but it should be fun and something different!

Angry Alligator

This gator is from my children's book that I'm currently reworking. Just a quick sketch and color study. Refreshing myself on coloring with Photoshop. I've come to realize that coloring with a mouse is a pain in the wrist! I'll seek a Wacom or a Cintiq when I really get going with this certain thing that I really need to get going on.
